Spelling and Grammar

We have identified that approximately 50% of the CVs we receive contain either spelling and/or grammatical errors. We can’t stress enough how important this issue is. The answer is to check, double-check and even triple-check. A proffesional CV contains zero errors!

Just one letter out of place can make a major difference to your career prospects. Frequent cv writting errors include candidates stating, for example, that they “reported directly to the Sales Manger”. You’d be amazed how often we say that one word, “manager” spelled incorrectly.

It is not only vital to spell check your finished CV but also to manually proofread it to eliminate any mistakes that a spell check won’t pick up on, for example “playing a key role within a busty office”! And probably one of the best we’ve seen at The CV Centre was a candidate earnestly stating that they were “financially incompetent”! Spell checks won’t detect these sorts of problems – but a prospective employer most likely will.

Such candidates are clearly not helping themselves in terms of securing that all-important job interview. Eliminate all errors and you’re well on your way to achieving a really proffessional CV.

Effective CV preperation undoubtedly requires an eye for detail. To give you some practice, have you spotted the 4 spelling errors we’ve deliberately sprinkled into this page?!
