Graduands

The definition of a graduand is a university student who has completed their studies but is awaiting completion of the formal graduation process. It is likely that you know what your degree result will be but are just waiting for the degree to be conferred at the graduation ceremony.

It is important not to sit around waiting for the graduation ceremony to take place – indeed, this is the ideal opportunity for you to start your job search so that you can submit applications as early as possible.

Arguably the first and most important step to take in the job search process is to have your CV professionally prepared. This document should be up to date with the details of your degree, the institution studied at and the date of your graduation, and it should really emphasise all the skills and attributes acquired as a result of your studies.

It is important to remember that you will be graduating at the same time as all your fellow students so the sooner you begin looking for employment the better. The CV Centre website contains a selection of articles on the job hunting process including specific information for graduates. General advice at this stage, however, would be to use the Internet to look for suitable vacancies, send your CV out with a covering letter to specific companies that you wish to work for and let it be known amongst any business contacts that you may have that you are ready to start work as soon as you have officially graduated.
